Dance Classes For All Ages

Jazz and Hip Hop:

What is the difference between Jazz and Hip Hop?
The jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway type shows such as "Cats". It is a more structured, stage style of dance. Hip Hop is a fast, higher energy type of dance seen in music videos and commercials. Dance moves seen in music videos by Omarion, Chris Brown, and Janet Jackson would be typical examples of Hip Hop.

Children's Hip Hop is a high energy class that teaches the basics of T.U.R.F. dancing, which is a combo of pop locking, smooth choreography, and break dancing. This is a very positive and clean style of hip hop that current artists such as Omarion, Chris Brown, and Usher are dancing in their music videos. Students will learn slides, arm waves, popping, and how to create their own moves. The goal is to have fun and to learn from each others style. Age appropriate, clean music to R & B will be used. Class length is 60 minutes, 1 time per week for ages 6-12.

Teen Hip Hop teaches the same moves as the Children's Hip Hop, but is much more fast-paced and students will learn more challenging routines. Only clean, age appropriate music is used. Ages 13-18 only. Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.

Jazz I is our beginning program that introduces the basics of jazz. The jazz class uses comtemporary music similar to the hip hop classes, but is more focused on the stage type elements of jazz. The basic jazz steps are put together in an interesting way while focusing on placement within the step and remembering the combinations. We place students with their age group only, the youngest starting at age 6. Class length is 45 minutes, 1 time per week, for ages 6-12 and 1 hour, 1 time per week, for ages 13-18.

Jazz II is our intermediate jazz program which focuses more on technique and isolated movements. Students are introduced to turns and are challenged with fast paced combinations that vary in style, providing the dancer with the versatility needed to perform "Show Jazz". Class length is 1 hour, 1 time per week.

Jazz III is our intermediate/advanced jazz program where all aspects are more challenging. Students are expected to have more technical training and are taught how to execute more difficult turns, leaps, and jumps. Once you reach this level, you have the opportunity to audition to be a member of our Better World Entertainment Performance Group. Class length is 75 minutes, 1 time per week.

Jazz IV is our advanced jazz class. Students must have atleast three years of jazz and ballet training. Once you reach this level, you have the opportunity to audition to be a member of our Better World Entertainment Performance Group. Class length is 90 minutes, 1 time per week.

(NOTE: Classes are offered based on commitment received and require a four-student minimum to be held. If you are interested in a particular dance style for which we are not currently holding a class, get a few friends together and drop us a line! We would LOVE to accommodate you!)
